Congratulations!

If you've been paying attention to the indie scene at all over the past couple years, you've most likely heard of MGMT by now and if you haven't been living under a rock over the past few weeks, you've probably already heard the duo's newest single "Flash Delirium" from their upcoming LP release, Congratulations as well. What you probably haven't seen yet is the band's wildly bizarre music video for the song, so I thought I had to post it. Believe me, this video will leave you scratching your head, but this is MGMT and I really don't think we could expect anything else. At the moment, the video is only available on the band's website, but hopefully we can get it running up on BAH asap. If the video wasn't good enough, its also accompanied by a leak of their entire new album set to come out in just two weeks, on April 13th. Watch, listen, enjoy!

Its Good To Be Back

I was just surfing around the interweb late last night and to my surprise found out that an old favorite band of mine, Tokyo Police Club has just released their first single off of their upcoming album, Champ. The track is called Breakneck Speed and if you enjoyed any of the band's 2008 album, Elephant Shell, you likely won't be disappointed here, though thats not to say that this new release is simply a retread of what we've already heard before. The track is posted on the band's website for free download, so make sure to hit that up if you like what you hear. With their sophomore effort set to drop June 8th, the guys plan to start an American tour with Passion Pit the following day. They are also anticipated to play at both Coachella and Bonaroo.

Neon Indian Ranks Among Best New Bands of 2010

Today as I happened to be browsing the magazine section at my local CVS, I noticed there on the rack was the latest issue of Rolling Stone Magazine. Deciding to pick it up in hopes of finding inspiration for a potential post topic or at the very least just an interesting read, I flipped a few pages in and noticed that the editors had handpicked a list of their seven choices for the "Best New Bands of 2010." Not only that, but one of my more recently discovered favorites, which I can tell you has been blaring in my headphones for the past couple months now, was on the list. The band I'm referring to, as you may have guessed from the title, is the virtual founders of the chill wave genre, Neon Indian.

In recording, Neon Indian truly is a one man band with 21 year-old Austin, Texas native Alan Palomo producing everything from the wonderous dream-like riffs to the catchy vocals. Unlike Palomo's similar one man project, VEGA, Neon Indian was created with the prospect of live performances in mind. On stage Palomo is joined by guitarist Ronald Geirhart, percussionist Jason Faries and keyboardist Leanne Macomber. Since the release of their first LP, Psychic Chasms this past October, the band has more than proven themselves as Rolling Stone-worthy with an appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, invitations to SXSW, Sasquatch and Bonaroo, not to mention finding themselves placed on multiple of Pitchfork's best of '09 lists. In fact when the group recently played in Boston, due to demand, they added an additional show, one of which I was lucky enough to attend, just to compensate for their rapidly growing status. Make sure to take a listen the bands newest single Sleep Paralysist!

The Bloody Beetroots Death Crew 77

Come and get it! New Beetroots EP and an amazing video to boot. Alright, alright, I do realize that I just posted about an electro crew, one that brought me back to fond memories of a Bloody Beetroots track no less, and yes I do realize that I just started this thing and should probably not focus too hardcore on only the electronic side of the hipster kingdom, but it is Ultra Festival weekend and the scene is buzzing. So thats what your gonna get whether you like it or not. Not to mention, I already feel as if I'm late to the blogging game and this gives me a great chance to rehash a very important player in the electro arena.

As you may or may not know, the Bloody Beetroots, comprised of Sir Bob Cornelius Rifo and DJ Tommy Tea, have been lighting up blogs all over the place for the past couple years and really thats no surprise if you've ever given them the chance to woo you with their killer beats and saturated hooks. Even with the recent release of their long awaited LP, Romborama this past fall, it seems that the guys really have no intentions of slowing their momentum. With numerous EP releases and new side projects, the Beetroots have managed to stay fresh in our minds, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

In referring to new side projects, that brings me to the topic of the Beetroots' newest incarnation known as Death Crew 77, which seems to promise much of what we are familiar with from Dim Mak's golden boys, while allowing the group to branch in a somewhat different direction and sound. Though distinctions may be hard to pick up on, the crew has added a third Beetroot by the name of Edward Grinch as their live performance drummer. With this new manifestation, Bob Rifo is also said to play more of an instrumental and vocal role during shows as well. With that check out their new video for "Domino" and decide for yourself if the name change was really a necessary move.

Night Kids

To launch Blog-Age Hipster, I'd just like to start off with a test post of sorts. Still just trying to figure things out. I do however have a track to highlight right off the bat. I found this BAH approved track on a great blog called Trashbags Kids and it itself inspired me to create this thing and share it with other electro bangin', indie lovin', hipsters out there in cyberspace. So I guess you know who to blame if you already can't stand reading it.

Night Kids is a group of 20 somethings from the New York club scene who started off DJing and decided to take things to the next level and produce their own music. If your like me, you like your electro hard, and thats exactly what Night Kids delivers. To date they've only released one track of their own, but its more than enough to raise an eyebrow of any true lover of the genre. To make a comparison only for the sake of doing so, the happy yet heavy track brings back memories of a favorite Beetroots track of mine, I Love the Bloody Beetroots, though it most definitely stands well on its own. The group hopes to drop their first LP this summer and plans to perform weekly at their venue of choice in NYC, Happy Ending. Take a listen, you won't regret!
